As the Chief Scientific Officer and President at Minicircle, Walter oversees all research and development in creating our novel gene therapies. He plays an essential role at every step of the development process, from ideation and design to assembly, ensuring the highest standards for quality and safety. His work has directly contributed to our streamlined and scalable gene editing technology. A leader on the scientific team, Walter brings a deep understanding of biotech, chemistry, engineering, computer science, and more.
Walter believes gene therapy has the potential to radically improve human life and health, considering it a “great milestone” in the fight for true equity and equality in the world. His most ambitious vision is to see gene therapy solve our greatest challenges: disease, death, and dysfunction.
While at University of North Carolina Pembroke, Walter began his scientific career working in the biotechnology lab. That’s also where he met Mac Davis, Minicircle’s Founder and CEO, and the two formed a friendship rooted in a shared goal to offer the world more health options. They worked together at Prophase Biostudios in Austin, a non-profit community lab, before creating Minicircle.
A true innovator in and out of the lab, Walter enjoys experimenting with his 3D printers, playing Dungeons and Dragons, and reading classic science fiction novels.
